Luce at Cosford Cinema
Certain to be one of the most talked-about films of the year, Luce is a smart psychological thriller that will leave audiences breathless. An all-star high school athlete and accomplished debater, Luce (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) is a poster boy for the new American Dream. As are his parents (Naomi Watts and Tim Roth), who adopted him from a war-torn country a decade earlier. When Luce’s teacher (Octavia Spencer) makes a shocking discovery in his locker, Luce’s stellar reputation is called into question. http://www.cosfordcinema.com/screenings/2019/09/luce
Joker in 70mm at Gables Cinema
Centering on the origin of Batman’s iconic arch nemesis, Joker is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen and inspired by Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and The King of Comedy. Oscar-nominee director Todd Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale. Arthur finds it impossible to follow his mother’s advice to smile and put on a face, asking himself: “Is it me or is it crazier out there?” Oscar-winner Robert De Niro plays a talk-show host who becomes a catalyst as Arthur’s life spirals out of control. http://www.gablescinema.com/events/joker/
